BT372  Central Register of Seamen: Seamen's Records ('Pouches') 1913-1972 .

BT373 1913-1972

Records relating to individual seamen filed together in a pouch. These documents may include application forms (most with a photograph of the seaman), certificates, identity cards, cessation documents and notifications of death.
The contents of any particular pouch, however, may cover any period starting after1913 and ending up to 1972 and possibly, although unlikely, beyond. When seamen were discharged some or all of their documents (including the index cards) were placed in the pouches and these include discharges of seamen who were originally registered in the Central Index Register of 1913 to 1941.

BT374  1959-1996
This series consists of registers recording changes of names of ships that are on the Register of Shipping maintained by the Registrar General of Shipping and Seamen (and from 1992, the Registry of Shipping and Seamen).

BT380  Primarily WWII: Log Books, Crew Agreements and associated records 1936-1950.

BT381  Coast Trade Ships Official Log books and Crew Agreements 1939 to 1945.

BT382 1941-1972 The Fifth Register records on a standard form (CRS 10) the service of individual merchant seamen and lists the ships on which they served with relevant dates. The CRS 10s give personal details of each seaman including, name, age, rank, rating/grade and qualifications. They provide details of ships served on, the names of ships and their official numbers, the dates of engagement and discharge and rank served.

BT385  The cards record all ship's logbooks and Crew Agreements received at the Registrar General of Shipping and Seamen for the period 1939 to 1950.

BT386  This series consists of papers relating to applications for war medals, in particular WW II Campaign Stars.

BT387 Registrar General of Shipping and Seamen: WWII Log books and Agreements and Crew Lists of Allied Foreign Ships, requisitioned or chartered by HMG.

BT389  Shipping Movement Cards  1939-1946 The cards give the name of a ship and details of its movements, namely, the ports at which it docked, and passage between ports. They also record the location (by latitude and longitude) and date a ship was sunk. It should be noted that the cards do not always reflect changes in the ship's name and that it may be necessary to search for a ship under its various names. I'm told that you need the information contained in these to support an Application for medals.

BT390  1939-1946  Ministry of War Transport: Registrar General of Shipping and Seamen: Merchant Seamen who served on Royal Navy ships under the T124X and T124T agreements: Records .
